I actually imagined something similar to this, only it takes place after "Luigi's Mansion"; the first game, when Mario is finally free of that awful painting (poor baby). The bros fell asleep in E. Gadd's lab, and the Professor, seeing this, covered them both with a blanket, turned out the lights, and let them sleep as long as they needed to.
