Dude, guys. Duuuuuuuuuuude. I used to play this game every waking hour as a kid. No lie. Diddy Kong Racing... I MISS YOU.
In fact, as a youngster, this game was the basis of my first fan fiction! Believe me, it's the worst crap ever spawned on paper, but looking it over, there WERE some character dynamics I still like from it. I developed them with the little info I had provided by the instruction booklet's story. XD So I want to explore them again, and they're illustrated here.
Timber I pretty much had pegged as the leader, since it was his island in the first place. His parents were on vacation when he invited everyone to race... and Wizpig came uninvited. D: Diddy's his close pal, though he lives on DK Isles, so he's the first who's invited. He's the peppy, optimistic one who keeps everyone motivated to push on, as well as perhaps break up a few quarrels. Bumper, I will admit, I spent the least amount of time on character-wise, 'cause he seemed uninteresting to me at the time. XD He's one of the denizens of Timber Island, and racing is a passion of his. He's just the laid-back kinda guy who backs up Timber and Diddy. Now, Drumstick, on the other hand, seemed much more interesting. He's deemed the best racer on the island, so naturally, he's the first to challenge Wizpig (offscreen, before Diddy and pals arrive), and he loses and is turned into a frog. With such a title, accompanied by that humiliation, I imagined the guy to be kind of a... cock. *snort* No, but seriously. Banjo even frees him from his spell on accident and he doesn't give two shits. They don't like each other very much. However, Banjo's the sweet kinda guy who wouldn't let the rooster get him down for very long, and though the others are a little intimidated by him at first when Diddy brings him along (which he's a little sensitive about), most of the others really warm up to him. Especially another one of the denizens of Timber Island,Tiptup. He's terrified of Banjo at first, but after a bit the turtle sorta starts to cling to him. XD They kinda derived strength from each other; I think I had Tiptup beat Wizpig's second race, with help and encouragement from Banjo. Pipsy was, I felt, a better racer than Drumstick, and though she didn't have the ego, she definitely had the skill, and she knew it. She was very focused on the races. Meanwhile, another of Diddy's pals, Conker, is totally crushing on her. XD So they have a silly little relationship ahaha. Finally, Krunch followed Diddy, Conker, and Banjo to Timber Island on request of K. Rool, to see if he could stir things up. But then Wizpig got in the way, and Krunch became less of a threat and more of an unwilling helping hand. XD He's the bully, pretty much.
So yeah! That was the basis of character interaction in that fic... who knows maybe I'll revisit it again. I'm definitely still comfortable with the dynamics between them.
Awesome expression! It's like a true childhood fan story for Nintendo fans! You are awesome for creating and even putting a descriptive elaboration to this.
Days of DKR (n64): December 24, 2997 - Late 2003. Fun game, rivals well with MK64 (though DKR is the better one as a Single Player racing game IMO), and both were great to finish.
Thus that day, Conker was in love with Pipsy until he found Berri.
Thus, his hormones grew 3 sizes that day, and his innocence, you say?
Let's just say it was put down.
Anyways, nice pic! Though I wouldn't imagine Bumper saluting to the sky, unless there's some sort of flying bald eagle with an American flag across his side. XP
You really captured the likeness of the characters.
